Further explorations with paper…..

I’m really enjoying the contemplative process of making these works. This one combines burnt paper with a print taken in ink from that paper, and some coloured pencil. However, soon I’ll be seeing holes in my sleep!

I’m also working with the heavily rusted, torn and stitched paper I made last year,  forming large pieces into smaller draped and folded forms. Why stick to two dimensions when three is so interesting?

They reminded me of red earth cliffs one might see as one approaches land from the sea, so I’ve called them Landfall 1 and 2. These pieces will be exhibited at Artsite Gallery in March this year.

Entropy

After a while buffeted by the sudden gusts of wind we have been experiencing here in Sydney, my rusted and stitched panels are demonstrating the process of entropy very nicely. I was worried about them making it through the length of the exhibition, but I now I think they’ll hang on till the end.

Entropy at North Sydney Art Prize

We installed my work at the Coal Loader this week. It’s in a rather rustic building which suits the work very well. The brick walls are stained with rust and old paint. The site is open on one side, so the panels move with the breeze – sometimes it looks as if they are breathing. There are lots of interesting works to see, many of them site specific.

Some great photos and excellent commentary from Mo at its crow time.

And here some photos of the glass ceiling of the gallery which is the floor of the cafe upstairs.

And here is the progress of my box of rust. The wire is growing protrusions as the rusting process continues.
