I will also have a work in this exhibition at Pine Street Creative Art Centre. Artworks from Sydney Printmakers will be shown together with an exchange portfolio developed between The Open Studio, Canada, and Sydney Printmakers. My prints are not part of the portfolio, but I will be showing another rust print as part of the Sydney Printmakers exhibition.

I’ve been playing with making some small three dimensional forms. This first one is quite organic.

I’m wondering whether anyone out there knows whether these prints will retain their colour? I’m happy for them to degrade over time, but I would love it if the subtle and beautiful range of colours endures.

Wabi Sabi
I discovered some references to Wabi Sabi recently. The term seems to convey things that I am interested in expresssing in my work.
Wabi-sabi represents a comprehensive Japanese world view or aesthetic centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is “imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete”. Read about it here.
Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, asperity (roughness or irregularity), simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.

Materials
Here’ s some interesting materials for new work. More than 200 10 x 10cm Matt board tiles and the sheets they were cut from. I have lots of work to do !
