Angela is visiting me, so today we did some natural dyeing with eucalyptus leaves. (She had emailed me before arrival suggesting we do some dying together, and I replied that though I appreciated the offer, I would prefer to leave it for a few years yet.)
We had some simple white silk kimono style jackets.
Having brewed up a dye solution using fallen eucalyptus leaves overnight, we added red onion skins and those wonderful gum leaves that make an orange dye and wrapped our silk jackets tightly, binding them with string. Although we should have left them overnight in the dyeing liquor, we were too impatient! Here are some of our results.
